The wide angle view
For a lofty view, head for the
cliff walk!
To the north, the panorama embraces not only the entire
coastline of Anglet but also the seemingly endless stretch of the sun-kissed beaches of the
Landes coast.
The
19th century lighthouse standing proudly over
Cape Saint-Martin indicates the boundary between Anglet and its famous neighbour,
Biarritz.
When you come down from the cliff, you must not fail to stop at the
grotto of the Chambre d'Amour. A legend, worthy of the world’s best melodramas, tells the tale of the fateful romance of two turtledoves,
Laorens, a poor orphan, and
Saubade, daughter of a rich farmer, who met in the grotto, despite having been forbidden to be so by the father, and that were finally swept out to sea by the wild breakers of the Atlantic.
Perhaps if you lend an attentive ear, you may hear their
billing and cooing.
