Over the centuries, the choir repertoire has been nourished by sacred music.
Philippe Mendes has chosen to revive this repertoire by placing our contemporary composers at the heart of this new Ch?ur Ascèse program: Arvo Pärt, Eric Whitacre, Ola Gjeilo, Josep Vila, Nicolas Bacri for the best-known, and Jon Saenz Rubio, a young Basque composer. These composers, from different countries and cultures, were influenced by the great masters of early polyphony. We will be performing two early pieces of Italian sacred music, one by Giovanni Giorgi, the other being Gregorio Allegri?s famous Miserere.
Bach could not be excluded from this program. We will be singing one of his chorales, revisited by contemporary composer Rhonda Sandberg.
