The calculating society has very concrete effects on each and every one of us. From CAF algorithms to banking algorithms, from systems that match job vacancies to job seekers to higher education courses based on baccalaureate results, we are calculated, sorted and scored everywhere.

Behind their promises of efficiency, however, what we see is their great difficulty in calculating the social. Far from being neutral, these calculations have an impact, first and foremost on the most precarious groups.

Explaining their shortcomings, pointing out their failings, understanding why they are often ill-suited to the problems they seek to solve, how they reinforce inequity, and finding ways to resist their hold, will be the focus of this meeting with journalist Hubert Guillaud.
