Anglet Surf de Nuit: an event unlike any other in the world

A spectacular night-time competition

Specialty event of the World Surf League, the Anglet Surf de Nuit is a unique event in the world where mixed teams of surfers compete against each other at night, using lighted boards, on the illuminated spot of Les Sables d’Or. This historic Chambre d’Amour event, celebrated for over 20 years, attracts an international audience every August, thanks to the involvement of the World Surf League.

With its illuminated boards, the Anglet Surf de Nuit offers an unforgettable spectacle for spectators and an exciting challenge for surfers. This annual event reinforces its status as an essential part of the summer season, combining competition and conviviality under the stars.

All about the competition format

The competition format is simple: 6 teams of 2 surfers each, one male and one female, compete in two qualifying heats, one for the women and one for the men. Each surfer’s best score counts towards the team total, and the top three teams qualify for the final.

In the final, surfers compete in a mixed heat with all six competitors. Each surfer’s highest score counts, and this is how the winners are determined. Each team has the opportunity to compete for prize money, which is donated to the organization of its choice.
