Easter Monday in Anglet is all about conviviality and tradition!
Head to the Place des Cinq Cantons to watch a giant Easter omelette being made in a spectacular pan 1.80 m in diameter. The eggs are broken, the country ham is ready... all that's missing is you!
Supported by Anglet Côte Basque and the Mailhouns cycling association (seagulls in Gascon), this tradition dates back to the year 800, when William of Aquitaine is said to have offered Easter eggs to his vassals. In the Middle Ages, the eggs collected from farms were redistributed in the form of omelettes to the most needy. Since then, the omelette has become a festive dish, a symbol of sharing and generosity.
Every year, the Banda des Genêts d?Anglet provides a musical accompaniment to this essential part of Anglo-Saxon life.
