Trained at the Paris Opera and a leading figure in contemporary dance, Olivia Grandville has been the artistic director of Mille plateaux, the National Choreographic Center of La Rochelle, since 2022. With "En même temps", a piece created for nine dancers, she explores—with humor and intelligence—the ambivalence of mass choreography and tightly coordinated unison movements.

Synchronized dances reign supreme on dance stages and our screens. In the age of the same, unison goes viral. What does this power of cohesion—generated by the group’s synchronicity—tell us?

Starting from the observation that "unison in dance is a suspicious, seductive, and dangerously ambiguous form," the choreographer decides to investigate. The piece resembles those walls on which investigators pin up photos and clues, drawing connections. Here, the challenge is to define unison and explore its various styles...
