Vincent Dedienne adapts the diary of Jean-Luc Lagarce, one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th century. By exploring his writing journals, he paints a picture of an era, the 1980s and 1990s, while also painting an intimate portrait—both funny and deeply moving—of a young man passionate about theater who died at the age of just 38. Caught in a solitary and romantic existence between Paris and Besançon, Jean-Luc Lagarce recorded every event of his life from the age of 20 until his death.

Directed by Johanny Bert, accompanied on stage by illustrator Irène Vignaud, Vincent Dedienne brings the author’s words to life with finesse and humor, accuracy and respect—words that are at once funny, poignant, intimate, political, poetic, sometimes cruel, and universal.

A striking tribute.
