The Pignada Forest is a haven of biodiversity in the heart of the city. Planted with maritime pines at the request of Emperor Napoleon III, it spans 220 hectares. In 2020, more than a third of its forest was destroyed in a fire. On the sand dune, newly planted trees stand alongside the charm of the older ones.

We’ll take you along its trails to explore the diversity of the trees found there. Can you tell the difference between deciduous and coniferous trees? We’ll explain the differences between them using an identification key. We’ll also explore the different “forest levels”—the forest strata—along with their associated flora and fauna. These layers provide diverse habitats and help increase the forest’s biodiversity. With binoculars and magnifying glasses in hand, we’ll take the time to observe the teeming life at every level and marvel at it!

Ages 6 and up.
