Horticultural greenhouses open to all

Behind the Mendi garden lies a horticultural family heritage spanning three generations. Dare to push open the door of this flower-filled garden, and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the Mendiburu family and, more broadly, in the living heritage of the town of Anglet, once known and appreciated for its market gardening. Immerse yourself in a garden open to all, all year round.

Mendi is above all a story of love for plants and family! After several years in Canada, Mendiburu grandparents Maritxu and Arnaud decided to return to their Basque farming roots.

A family adventure based on sharing

In 1969, they set up in the heart of Anglet, on a 15,000 m² farm, to develop a horticultural production of roses and flowering potted plants. They wanted to pass on their passion for flowers to those who wished to learn from them. It’s the start of a garden for everyone, a convivial place where gardening enthusiasts, Sunday enthusiasts and curious visitors can meet up with friends, family or solo.

The family greenhouses have grown over the years thanks to the commitment of the two eldest sons, Philippe and Alain, followed by the youngest, Beñat, their three wives and one great-grandson. Together, they enhance the Garden of Eden, perpetuate ancestral know-how, and develop the horticultural offer and the sales area, where they proudly offer plants from their own Mendi production, alongside other selections.

This corner of nature, open 7 days a week, is rich in little nuggets “made in Mendi”, to embellish every garden. A team of enthusiastic salespeople and horticulturists is on hand to advise and guide visitors in their purchases. To prolong the moment, the Chez Maritxu restaurant, in homage to the family matriarch, has opened its doors within the greenhouses.

Workshops and educational tours

Since 2023, the Mendi garden has been offering the chance to discover the horticultural adventure through seasonal gardening and creative workshops. These immersive moments of sharing, lasting from 1 to 2 hours and offered to children aged 5 and over, awaken the senses, stimulate creativity and wonder, and encourage disconnection and even reconnection with the senses. Educational tours, led by horticulturalists, are also offered to budding young explorers, who plunge their hands into the earth to discover and learn about horticulture in a fun way.
