Grotte de la Chambre d'Amour

La Chambre d’Amour cave has given its name over to an entire district opposite the seafront between Anglet beach and the Biarritz lighthouse.
In times gone by, Laorens, a poor orphan, and Saubade, daughter of a rich farmer, fell in love. They met, despite opposition by their fathers, in a cave opposite the immense waves of the ocean. Once there, they swore an oath to love each other until death. One fine day, a storm was brewing in the Golf of Gascony, and the sea rose rapidly, more so than usual, and swept the lovers away. This cave then became known as the “Chambre d’Amour” this cave which today still attracts lovers and those curious about its heritage.
